This policy covers visitor information collected by oilgastexas.com. Reading the site does not require an account.
Visits and operational records
The hosting system records technical request information, which can include your IP address, requested URL, time, response status, browser details and referring URL. The operator may use these records and private diagnostic archives to operate the site, investigate abuse and understand traffic, including approximate network or regional information. Do not put sensitive personal information in URLs.
Google Analytics and cookies
The site uses Google Analytics 4 through Site Kit by Google to understand readership. Google can receive page and interaction information, device/browser details and your IP address, and use it to derive approximate location. Analytics can use first-party cookies such as _ga and _ga_* to distinguish browsers and sessions. Google explains its processing in How Google uses information from partner sites and its Privacy Policy.
You can manage or block cookies in your browser and use Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Blocking cookies alone does not necessarily stop all Analytics transmissions. Staff sign-in also uses WordPress authentication, login-test and preference cookies; these are separate from readership measurement.
Accounts and comments
Public registration is closed. Staff accounts store usernames, email addresses and profile details. Comments are closed on articles and resource pages. If an older post accepts comments, WordPress stores the submitted details, IP address and browser information; the comment and display name may be public. Optional comment cookies can remember your details.
Contact messages
The contact form collects your email address, message and optional name. Messages are emailed through the hosting mail system to a Gmail inbox. These providers process the message and delivery information. Messages are not saved as WordPress posts. Do not include passwords or payment details.
Spam controls use a hidden trap field and a counter valid for ten minutes, keyed by a salted hash of the connecting IP address instead of storing the raw IP in that counter. Hosting request logs can still contain the IP address as described above.
Newsletter signups
The newsletter signup form collects your email address with your consent to receive Oil Gas Texas updates. The site’s WordPress database stores the address, signup time and consent version. Only site administrators can view the subscriber list; signing up does not create a user account.
The newsletter is coming soon. A successful signup saves your address and displays an on-page confirmation; it does not send an email. Signup controls include a nonce, hidden trap field and a five-attempt limit per ten minutes, keyed by a salted IP hash. The subscriber table does not store IP addresses or browser details; hosting logs remain separate.
We keep signup records until you request removal or the list is no longer needed. Use the contact form to withdraw consent or request deletion. Backups can retain earlier copies according to their separate retention settings.
Sources and service providers
Charts, diagrams and the Texas region map are hosted on this site. Links to price-chart providers and agencies open websites with their own privacy practices. Hosting services and Google process information for site operation, Analytics and email. The site has no advertising placements or embedded videos.
Retention and your choices
Retention depends on the record and service provider. Hosting logs, diagnostic archives, account records, backups, email and Google Analytics have separate retention settings. Use the contact form to request access, correction or deletion of information associated with you. Requests may require identity verification; security, administration or legal obligations can require records to be retained.
Privacy questions and updates
Use the contact form for privacy questions or requests. Include the relevant page, approximate date and information you supplied, but do not send passwords. Changes to this notice will appear on this page with an updated date.
